Daer aaye durust aaye – Better late than sorry – as a famous Hindi saying goes, 2001 Parliament attack convict – Afzal Guru has been hanged. Finally justice has been done to all those who lost their lives in the attack.
I must say that government has been doing some serious home work for the past few months. (I don’t know whether this is for the upcoming elections or what) but I have high regards for the ministry for taking such decisions. Families of the martyrs who lost their lives protecting the babus at the parliament welcomed the decision.
While the condition in the valley still remains critical. Though army hasn’t been called, the local cops have been alerted to avert any unwanted activity. The government was quick to enforce section-144 in the region just after Guru was hanged.
In the recent past also, we saw how Kasab was hanged under highly secret circumstances in Yerwada jail in Pune. This again followed the same path and the news of Guru being hanged spread like fire on the news channels. I still remember when Sushil Kumar Shinde became the Home Minister, the very same day, serial blasts rocked the city of Pune. But since then there has been no looking back for the minister. He has brought joy to millions of Indians.
Well, I am over joyed and certainly welcome this decision. I hope the government continues to clear the mess in the country and make India a more peaceful place to live !
I don’t understand how killing the person who killed your family is fair and is dubbed “justice served.” Isn’t this also equivalent to murder?
The motive is to give the highest possible punishment to the convict. Unfortunately its death penalty in our legal system.
This is not about “rarest of rare” case, in my opinion. The person who killed (Ajmal Kasab) close to 160 people gets the same punishment like the one who killed 6 people! If killing more than 1 people deserves hanging, then why should one limit one’s massacre because no matter what the number is, you get the same punishment? Kasab and Guru was hanged purely for political reasons: 2014 is around the corner. The last execution happened in India in 2004. It’s been 8 years since the last hanging was done, and we see 2 hangings just in a matter of 3 months! Everything is for political gains and is not really for “justice to the victims.”
