Fantastico Star Gazing

“Traveling is like reading a book, one who hasn’t travelled hasn’t turned a page” this is my favorite quote and hencce I don’t miss out on opportunity to discover and explore new places. Just like I’m doing now ! Zooming on the national Highway 65 towards Vijayawada. The road seems pretty good, didn’t think that the roads in this part of India would be so good ! Nonetheless it has been a smooth ride all this while. It’s almost midnight and the bus driver decides to stop for dinner, wonder how many people would actually have it. I get down of the bus to street a bit and realize it’s the same place again. I have travelled earlier on the same route, in the same bus and on the same seat ! This can’t be coincidence ? Or is it ? Anyways, the place where this guy stops didnt have much last time around when I came here. However things look different this time around, place has become neat and has some life. People are busy rushing to washrooms, smokers enjoying a puff and I’m sitting at a corner looking up at the clear sky. Wow couldn’t have been better than this. We rarely get to see a clear sky in cities. I could spend hours together looking at the fantastico Stars lighting up the sky !

Star gazing makes you realize that you are the minutest part in the entire universe. There’s much much more to this universe. I remember sitting outside my dormitory (Rezwan) on movie nights during my early days at boarding school and just looking at the sky. Panchgani is at a very high altitude so sky was clear at most times. Would get my pillow lie down and keep looking at stars. Finding one then another and then numerous tiny twinkling stars, it was so joyful then and it is so even now, sitting under a a clear sky off the highway, iPad in the hand staring at the those stars once again.

The difference ? Well instead of counting stars, I now try to identify constellations. Constellations are a group of stars that form a unique pattern. Some constellations are very easily identified while others can’t be seen with naked eyes, you definitely need a telescope to identify them. If you read about constellations you’ll realize the story behind it. These fantastico patterns are treat to the eyes. One of the most commonly found constellation is Orion – the hunter. Even now as I’m writing this, I’m looking at the Orion. This is probably the first thing you will see in the sky. And the easiest way to identify it would be 3 stars in a straight line. Once you get this you can easily make out the remaining pattern. One star to the other, one constellation to the other, you’ll get so involved that you will not realize how many hours have passed.

Remember Hrithik and Katrina from Zindagi Na Milegi Dobara, staring at the sky, lying on the ground outside their mansion ? In reality it’s much more beautiful that what was shown. It’s definitely a thought provoker. There will be many thing going on in your mind, but the moment you are involved with these stars, you’ll forget everything  and before you realize you will be on a fantastico ride of the universe.
