Bollywood movies and its impact on tourism

I’m pretty sure that most of you would have watched the movie Bajrangi Bhaijaan last year and must have gone gaga over the mesmerizing locations in Pakistan. Munni’s house in Sultanpur or the India Pakistan border at the climax, the movie captured some of the most breathtaking shots. However if you are wondering how beautiful Pakistan is in the movie, think again ! [Pakistan indeed is one of the most beautiful places on Earth, the Swat valley is marvelous, in no way I intend to hurt the feelings of my Pakistani friends] All the places you saw in the move were shot in India – Yes ! The Pakistani village where Salman stayed in a school was shot in Mandawa while the climax was shot at Sonamarg in Jammu and Kashmir. Bollywood movies now and then, help us explore not only our beautiful country by other countries as well thus promoting tourism. And hence I’ll talk about Bollywood movies and its impact on tourism.

In another recent movie – Tamasha – a small French town of Corsica was portrayed. I’m quite sure not many of us would have heard about the place earlier, but thanks to the movie which captured some exquisite shots of Corsica and brought it to us. The amazing coast line coupled with the beautiful European architecture, Corsica definitely gathered some eyeballs ! And just after the movie’s success, reports came in from travel portal that they have been getting a lot of queries for vacationing in Corsica this summer. So you see how Tamasha in a way had an impact on Corsica’s tourism ? Even the evergreen jodi of Raj and Simran had a huge impact on the already mesmerized Indian audience about Bulgaria. A good part of Dilwale was shot in Bulgaria – another amazing European city with fabulous architecture and great landscape.

Not only foreign locations, Bollywood movies have brought some great locations from India on the world map. For instance this small town of Mandawa is probably the Director’s favorite when it comes to showing Pakistan. Even the Highest grossing Bollywood movie ever – PK had shot in Mandawa. Apart from this, another latest movie Sanam Re is being shot in Himachal Pradesh. Himachal has been a regular in Bollywood movies, Shimla and Manali are some of the most sought after locations. And after watching these movies one would definitely google for these places, at least I do hoping to go on a vacation to these beautiful places ! So Bollywood movies are also creating a positive impact as they are helping these states promote tourism.

Even though technology has evolved manifold in the last few decades, it’s nice to see the Producers going overseas to capture that perfect shot. Or else, they could easily achieve it by computer generated graphics or by visiting a Film city like Ramoji to shoot the film. It’s always good to see movies that explore some of the best locations in the world. Few guys might be lucky to visit some of the foreign locations, while many would love to explore their own backyard – no matter what it is, Bollywood movies are having a great impact on promoting tourism.
