Flying High at the India Aviation 2016

The best parts about traveling is that you get to see a lot of new things – people, places, food and what not. However one of things that I’ve enjoyed over the years are expos or exhibition. They are a great way to explore and learn. Be it the Auto Expo or Defence Expo in New Delhi or the Fleet Review in Visakhapatnam or the Gadget Expo in Hyderabad, I’ve attended all of them. It’s exciting and a scintillation experience attending such fairs and expos. After having visited so many Expos related to different fields, it was time for me to check out the India Aviation 2016 – consumer aviation expo that was held at the Begumpet Airport in Hyderabad from 16th March to 20th March. So here’s my experience at the expo.

Well, this was the first aviation expo that I had ever attended. There was already a lot of buzz around the event – thanks to the dignitaries like the President and the Chief Minister who attended the event. The event was a great way for people to witness the consumer aviation sector up close. The event was organized at the Begumpet Airport here in Hyderabad. The event saw the biggies of the consumer aviation industry take part in it. Be it the bigwigs like Airbus, Boeing and ATR, or the state-run authorities like Airport Authority of India, ISRO to name a few. The stalls from Hindustan Aviation Limited attracted quite a few people, thanks to their models of aircrafts on display.

There were a lot of school children who were present at the ISRO stall as their teacher told them about satellites (ah good old days) Airbus had a stall and had their flagship miniature models of the might A380, A350 and the A320. This was by far the highly visited stall at the event. Their were stalls by Rolls Royce and Pratt and Whitney who displayed models of the Jet engines. Also, there was a stall of ATRremember that plane with propellers on the wing ?

Apart from the manufacturers, there were airlines too. There were stalls from Indian airlines including the likes of Air India, Jet Airways, Indigo Airlines and the latest entrant TruJet (Chiranjeevi’s venture) There was also a pavilion by GMR that showcased its achievements. So that was pretty much it inside the halls.

Outside, there were a few aircrafts on display – few smaller, chartered-plane-type jets, a Pawan-Hans helicopter and an aircraft of Air India – a Boeing probably. This was a serious let down for people visited the event as “General Visitors” as there were only about 10 aricrafts on display as compared to the 29 that were there for Business Visitors. They had the mighty Airbus A380 by Emirates. Indigo showed off their latest acquisition the Airbus A320 Neo. Plus the business visitors were allowed to get inside the aircrafts for some of them. Well, the less number of flights was a serious let down.

But the highlight of the show was the Aerobatics displayed by a team a professionals from United Kingdom. Flying their ‘cartoonish-painted‘ tiny aircrafts and doing some great maneuvers in the clear sky grabbed everyone’s attention. From the double barrel loop to free-fall, the team showed some thrilling stunts mid-air. This was probably the event everyone waited for – the shop stopper I should say !

So in the end it was a great experience to witness something of this stature. Aircrafts, Airport and the Runway – you don’t get access to these places so often (especially without spending thousands of rupees on a flight ticket 😉 The next edition – India Aviation 2018 will be held here again at the Begumpet Airport. So tell keep flying 😉
