Review of Hyderabad Ultimate Food Fest

Finally after a long time I’m writing a post from the Logitech K380 Wireless Keyboard on my iPad. Most of you following me on Twitter or Facebook would have realized that I was at The Hyderabad Ultimate Food Fest today. Even if you read my previous post you would be aware of it. I’m always on my toes to visit any food / trade fair. Be it the grand India International Trade Fair (IITF) held at Pragati Maidan, New Delhi or the Gadget Expo held in Hyderabad, I simply don’t miss chances of witnessing such events. And the Hyderabad Ultimate Food Fest – HUFF – as they call it was on my bucket-list for quite sometime. So here’s a quick Review of The Hyderabad Ultimate Food Fest.

Not for early birds

Frankly speaking, the event’s ticketing partner was BookMyShow and they were selling early bird tickets for Rs 250 and 300Rs. The time mentioned for the event was 11:30 am onwards. And I was at the venue by 12 – 12:15. To my surprise, I was told by the organizers to come back in an hour as ‘things were still getting ready’ Nonetheless I strolled around in the Hitex grounds and finally entered the venue. Well things were ‘still getting ready’ Most of the stalls weren’t ready at all, and requested the customers to check back in an hour. You don’t organise an event like this ! Either mention a different time, or be prepared. So for organisation, the Hyderabad Ultimate Food Fest was a disaster for me. People visiting the event late in the evening will surely have a different view.

Hyderabad Ultimate Food Fest brings Best restaurants under one roof

Keeping the organisational bit aside, I was surprised to see the Who’s Who of Hyderabad Food industry at the venue. From the famous Pista House to SodaBottleOpernerWala, there were close to 30 stalls serving up some delicious food. Punjab Grill was leaving no stone un-turned to attract the customers to their Fine Dining stall. Apart from these, there were a couple of Mexican, Chinese and South Asian restaurants that were participating. Ice creams and milk shakes were crowd pullers here.

Since nothing much was on offer as things weren’t ready yet, I decided to gorge on the Paneer Tikka and Vegetable Mughlai Roll at Roll Call. For 100 Rs, these Rolls were pretty good. Prepared fresh, the rolls were hot and a great taste.

Awesome Vada Pav from SodaBottleOpernerWala

Not to miss, the super-amazing Vada Pav and Lemonade at the famous SodaBottleOpenerWala. Their stall I guess was the best in terms of looks. They literally got the feel of their original outlet at the stall.

Also tried Tattha Idli and Steamed Dosa at Spice Value outlet. The items were prepared in front of us and not microwaved and served, so that’s a plus. All items I tried were superb on taste and worth the time and money.

Desserts stole the show

Since most of the stalls were still getting ready, the desserts stall were flocked by people. One of the best things I tried today was the Sitaphal (Custard Apple) and Chikoo Ice cream at the Natural’s stall. Trust me, you’ll pat my back after eating this. The restaurant is located near Jubilee Hills check post, so you can try there. For folks who enjoy a drink, there was a dedicated area serving chilled beer and other alcoholic beverages.

Tap & Pay at Hyderabad Ultimate Food Fest

Tap and Pay at Hyderabad Ultimate Food Fest.

Post Demonetization, the event saw wide use of “Tap & Pay” prepaid cards issued by SBI. These cards were easy to use and it simply required a tap and the stall could process your payment in a jiffy. Only that there was a non refundable fee or Rs30 and no refund in case any money was leftover. So it was nice to see paper based coupons being replaced by Hi-tech NFC devices (that’s what I think these cards were)

Final Verdict of Hyderabad Ultimate Food Fest

All in all, my first hand experience was ok-ish courtesy the poor planning and organisation of the event. However, I would highly recommend you to checkout the event in the evening – post 5pm. It would probably get better the later you visit. There is music and DJ performances in the evening and the event goes up till 11:30pm. Today was the second day and tomorrow is the last day of the event. So get your tickets and visit The Hyderabad Ultimate Food fest and share your experience with us.
