Cricket is Religion in India and Sachin is God, has become a cliche. No other sport gets much attention and love than what Cricket gets in India. However it’s nice to see other sports getting their due importance in the recent times. A couple of days ago I was at the launch of a wonderful initiative by Wonder Cement – Wonder Cement Saath7 Cricket Mahotsav. This is the second edition of the Saath 7 (Read Saath Saath) event. The Cricket Mahotsav has seen huge participation in the previous edition and drew accolades from various corners of the country. Here’s all you should know about Wonder Cement Saath 7 Cricket Mahotsav 2017.
Wonder Cement Saath7 2017 – Flag Off
The Saath7 Cricket Mahotsav 2017 edition was inaugurated by the legendary Kapil Dev. He along with the representatives from the top brass of the company were present including the likes of Mr. Vivek Patni, Director and Mr. Tarun Singh Chauhan, Management Advisor. On being associated with Wonder Cement Saath7 Cricket Mahotsav, Kapil Dev said, “This event brings out the hidden talents within the country and gives people from different walks of life an exhibit to their talent“. Mr Patani added “The entire aim is to bring unity and pride through the medium of sports and cricket being the favorite of all, there is nothing more we could ask for.” With such enthusiasm the tournament will surely be thumping success.
The event was previously held only in Rajasthan. This year the Wonder Cement Saath7 Cricket Mahotsav will be held in 2 more states including Gujarat and Madhya Pradesh. The matches for the tournament will start in December and the finals in Udaipur.
Saath7 Cricket Mahotsav – The Idea
Started in 2015 as a social experiment aimed at encouraging rural talent, Wonder Cement Saath7 Cricket Mahotsav witnessed a huge success in the Desert Kingdom-Rajasthan. The tournament will be composed of a 7 a side teams, 7 over match. The cricket Mahotsav is open for anyone. Yes ! You can have an all boys team, an all girls team and even a mixed team. Wonder Cement believes that age should not be a barrier and hence the tournament is open to people of any age. So as long as you can play, you are welcome to play ! In the last edition, the oldest player was Mira Devi, a 65-year-old young lady ! With such inspiration around, I’m sure there will be many more teams joining in this year !
Wonder Cement Saath7 Cricket Mahotsav believes in Women Empowerment and hence a lot of importance is given to woman players in the tournament. If a team has even a single female player, then it’s awarded 7 runs. The idea behind the Saath7 Cricket Mahotsav is to create a stage where people from all walks of life come forward and showcase their talent. It aims to eradicate any differences among the people and unite them with a common love – Cricket.
Bigger and Better – Wonder Cement Saath7 Cricket Mahotsav
Through this tournament, wonder cement not only plans to get people to come together and play cricket. But is also aims to generate employment for millions who will be involved in the tournament. The Wonder Cement Saath7 Cricket Mahotsav composed of 4800 teams – that’s more than 3,00,000 players. With such a large pool of talent, the tournament is one of the world’s largest consumer engagement program. The organisers will be providing every team kit as well as the equipment along with the preparation of the ground. So you simply need to come to the stadium and play !
The finale match will be held in Udaipur. After 15 matches between the 16 shortlisted teams, one winning team will emerge as the Team of Tehsil. Tehsil teams will converge at the District Level and face each other to take the District spot. Then the District Teams will converge at the Zonal level and Zonal teams will meet at Udaipur for the playoffs.
