India's show of might and culture

Today, India celebrates its 64th Republic Day. On this day in 1950, our constitution was drafted under the guidance of Dr. Ambedkar. Since then this has been an occasion to display India’s rich cultural diversity and its military might.

This time the chief guest was the king of Bhutan. India has a strong and healthy relations with almost every neighbor. Last time around the Prime Minister of Thailand was the chief guest. The chief guest is accompanied by the President. Fortunately it was a clear day today so things were quite nicely visible.

The parade includes march past by the armed forces and police. Its great to see the impeccable co-ordination among the members. There are also band who walk down the Rajpath. These bands often remind me of my time, when I was the Band master during my schooling days.. Anyways, the march past was followed by the display of power by the Armed forces. Today’s highlight was the Agni-V missile. The Indian Airforce jets zoomed in the clear skies alongwith the helicopter fleet.

March past was then followed by the cultural display. During this each state has a tableaux that represents it. I do wonder why don’t all states participate in this event ? If you have any answer please write them below. This time around only 19 of the total 29 states had their tableaux on display. With this one can learn about the cultures of various states in India. At the end of this, the bravery award winners go down the Rajpath and later followed by the dancing school kids.

This is one of the best events that the country hosts. And if you are in Delh around this time, then you must surely TRY to witness this extravaganza !

Here wishing all my countrymen a very HAPPY REPUBLIC DAY ! And a big thank you to our armed forces who are awake day in and day out to ensure our safety !
