Delhi to Ahmedabad – the VOLVO way !

Posting after a long long time…Had been busy with summer internship and a whole lot of other things. Well, the last week was a hectic yet a fun filled week for me. I would rather term it as a tailor-made week for me. Why ? The whole of last week I was busy travelling, traveled across 5 states, spent over 40 hrs in bus, with over 20 hrs of train journey and having tasted 3 different cuisines  and all of this in just 4 days !!!

So, the trip started with me having to visit Ahmedabad to complete my remaining procedure of Passport application. It was an all of a sudden trip. Got a call on Monday *threatening* that If I want the passport, I had to go to Ahmedabad in a week’s time else it might be rejected. So I jumped onto my computer chair and headed to IRCTC’s website. Nothing new happened there, as usual the website didnt open, looking for other alternatives, I came across this VOLVO Bus service operated by the Rajasthan State Road Transport Corporation(RSRTC) starting from Delhi and going all the way upto Ahmedabad via Jaipur, Bhilwada, Udaipur, Chittorgarh, Himmatnagar.

The bus leaves from Delhi at 3 pm sharp (and sharp mean sharp !) You can board this bus from Bikaner House on Pandora Road or from IFFCO Chowk in Gurgaon. The tickets can be easily booked from their website. OR it can be booked at the counter too.

Passengers are provided with a mineral water bottle during the start of the journey. The bus goes around India gate and then to Gurgaon via the Airport road. After picking up passengers from Gurgaon, the travel non-stop for atleast 2-3hrs before stopping at a restaurant for supper.

We stopped at Shiva Oasis Resort – a great place with a great sunset view and good food. Meanwhile they showed a couple of movie(Race 2 and Double Dhamaal), by the time the movie was over, we reached Sindhi Camp, Jaipur sharp at 9:15pm. A halt of 30 mins if provided. Most of the passengers get down here.

The bus then zooms, vrooms all the way to Bhilwada which is the next stop at around 2am ! At this point I must say that VOLVO Buses have certainly made the lives of the drivers simpler, with power steering, no more extra effort is required, also with the raging 9400 cc engine, the bus can reach speeds of over 100kmph in a flash. And these drivers certainly enjoy driving the bus, with passengers being taken on a roller-coaster ride ! 😛

Not to forget the marvelous, magnificent, smooth NH – 8, I (like any other roadie) would rate the NH 8 as THE BEST HIGHWAY in the country(excluding Expressways) Great road and lots of food joints. As this is one of the longest highways, one can find Rajasthani Cuisine, Gujarati and Marathi on the way !

The next stop is Udaipr at around 5 am in the morning. After this, they stop at around 7:30-8 am for breakfast (this time it was Parshwanath restaurant – the restaurant was a standard roadside type but the toilet was pathetic :0) Anyways, passing through numerous toll gates and zooming over the country’s best highway – NH 8 – its time to say goodbye to the bus as the destination has been reached. In Ahmedabad, the bus stops at Naroda, Kalupur Railway Station and Gita Mandir.

So, we left Delhi at 3pm, reached Jaipur at 9:15 am and the reached Ahmedabad at 10am ! For a bus journey of about 1000kms, the timing is impeccable !! All in all a great, great bus journey, just the way I like it !
