Setting out to be RTI Activist !

There are many many things/Acts created to help the citizens to understand/obtain information from various government institutions/departments. One such weapon is the RTI or Right To Information. This Act was constituted in 2005. Under this act any Indian citizen can obtain information from any government department by paying a nominal fee of Rs 10 (this fee is the nominal at all the places, but may charge extra based on the volume of information required)

So as the post title says, I have successfully filed my first ever RTI application. The application is addressed to the Ministry of External Affairs to seek information on the status of Passport Application (that has been pending for over 6 months now !) Tried everything but all in vain. So thought to use this weapon to get the information I need.

According to the Act, the respective department must submit a reply within 30 days from the day of receipt of the application. So I have to patiently wait for their reply. If a reply is not received, the applicant can move to the appellate authority/officer to lodge an official complaint.

Have you ever faced such a situation ? Not pertaining to passports, but any other issue and whether you have used the RTI tool to get the information ? Do share your views below, highly appreciated.
