One year in Hyderabad

Exactly a year ago I ‘revisited’ this city with faded school memories about Charminar, Ramoji Film City, Hussain Sagar et al. However this was no time to act as a tourist, rather it was time for this ‘Banjara’ to settle down in the city and soak in its culture. Like every new joinee starting their professional career, I arrived in Hyderabad with hope and determination.

I can proudly call myself ‘banjara’ having stayed at close to 6 different states and coming to Hyderabad was no big deal, it was a rather a ‘routine’ task that I had go used to. However things were slight different, since I was about to embark on my professional career. Started from Hostel / PG hunting Gachibowli and going on to write a blog post about PGs / Hostels in the area that is surely the most visited post by people looking for PGs. Now that’s Expert Level ! 😛 And as an a aid blogger I am, here’s my first post from Hyderabad – Hello from Hyderabad !

The Iconic Charminar
The Iconic Charminar

It didn’t take much time for me to get around and discover the place and its culture. After having Dosa / Sambhar in over 5 states, it tasted different ! These people are least bothered in Sambhar but they are surely the Masters of ‘Chutney’; throw anything at them and they can make chutney out of it. And since Hyderabad is synonymous with Biryani, how could I miss that ! Though a Vegetarian by choice, not much was on offer, but whatever was it was definitely out of the world. Bawarchi, Paradise, Karachi Bakery, Alpha, you name it and I’ve been there. You can follow my food journey on Zomato, look for my badge on the right bottom of the page 🙂

Moving on, apart from food the city has some of the most exquisite places to visit. Be it the trademark Charminar or the grand Golconda Fort, the city surely has the Nizami touch and a rich history. Even the markets are great here. Be it the landmark Banajara Hills for premium shopping to Koti / Abids and old city for bargain shopping, there’s everything for everyone.

Well here’s a list of my most visited posts related to Hyderabad:

Just last week Hyderabad celebrated EID, and trust me it’s a completely different feeling once you are in this city and more importantly in the old city. The hustle and bustle in the all night EID market in old city has its own charm. Added to it is the ghee laden Haleem which you wouldn’t find anywhere else. Again, being a vegetarian, the veg version isn’t that great.

All in all, I would say a great year spent in Hyderabad. Got to explore the unexplored and get a taste of the Nizami culture. Made new friends, re-discovered old friends. It has been a great journey so far, and hope the same continues…
