Serena Williams is possibly the best Woman’s Single player in the open era Tennis. She has been at the top for few years now and has been playing exceptionally well. She has won a record number of majors title – 36 of them – and is only behind the great Steffi Graf in the open era. Serena is also the reigning champion of the French Open, Olympics and the Wimbledon. She was looking good this season of the Australian Open and was en route to win the Singles Grand Slam title. She beat the likes of Maria Sharapova (6-4,6-1) followed by Agnieszka Radwanska (6-0,6-4) to reach the finals of the Australian Open only to get ‘Kerber’ed by the German who won her first Australian Open Title

Angelique Kerber is currently the 7th seed player who beat Serena William 6-4,3-6,6-4 to lift her maiden Australian Open Singles title. She reached a grand slam final for the first time in her career and things couldn’t have been better than this – winning a major grand slam title in the first ever final ! Last time around in the same event she had lost in the first round itself but her performance today was impeccable. She played the best tennis of her life to stun the 6 time and the defending champion Serena Williams. On the way to the finals she beat Victoria Azarenka coming back from a match point down.

Kerber was seen playing some great shots during the match, and the drop shots were amazing. The opening set was a crucial one for her when she broke Serena’s serve with fantastic cross court backhands. She was leading but not for long as the defending champion Serena leveled the first set at 3-3, but due to more unforced errors it was the German who wrapped up the first set in under 40 minutes.

The second set saw Serena roar into the match courtesy two crucial double faults by the German and that helped Serena keep up the pressure. Serena was leading comfortably at 4-1 and didn’t give the German a chance to come back into the game while eventually Serena won 6-3. The third and the final set was a nail biting one as both the players were tied at 2-2, some great tennis took place in the last set before Serena hit two double faults due to which the German got the lead of 3-2 and eventually went on to lead 5-3 and finally winning the match by 6-3.

This has been a great game of Tennis, a new champion has announced her arrival. This match was something Serena wouldn’t have dreamt of – giving away her title to the German who won her first ever Grand Slam title that too in her first ever grand slam final. Truly, Serena was ‘Kerber’ed in this match !
