Negi, Rahane or Pandey – Who will Dhoni choose ?

MSD has been the best Captain India has had for quite sometime now and has taken India to great heights in his tenure. From winning the inaugural World T20 title to winning the ICC World Cup in 2011 in front of the home crowd. Well he has a chance to do repeat the same feat. this time around in Eden Gardens ! FingersCrossed ! Dhoni has most of the time (read all the time) got things right – be it throwing off the glove in last over against Bangladesh or getting in that extra close in fielder. He has got everything right – except the Toss 😉 And over the years we have seen that MSD seldom changes the team combination IF the team is doing good. So is that the situation makes Dhoni change the team combination ?

Let’s take the example of the recently concluded Asia Cup T20. Dhoni started with a combination of Bumrah, Pandya, Ashwin and Jaddu and kept the same team till the finals. He did change the team in the last group match against UAE because India had already qualified for the finals. So we see that Dhoni isn’t keen on changing the winning XI combination. And that is perfectly right. Why fidget with the team if they are winning matches for you ? He has always picked up the perfect team every single time and has got it right almost every time.

Who should replace Yuvraj - Negi, Rahane or Pandey ?
Who should replace Yuvraj – Negi, Rahane or Pandey ?

However, Yuvraj’s injury in the last match against Australia is a huge blow for India and more for Dhoni as he has got to take the crucial decision to pick a player to fill in Yuvi’s place. That’s seriously a tough choice for him and the management to make considering that today’s match against West Indies is a do or die for India. If we lose we are out but if we win we get to see a replay of Lagaan 😉 Manish Pandey, Ajinkya Rahane and Pawan Negi are probable to replace Yuvraj.

Considering Yuvi’s crucial bowling spell, Pawan Negi should be the choice that Dhoni would make. In absence of Yuvraj, Negi can get in those crucial overs with his left arm spin if the front line bowlers get pounded. Also, we have seen that this tournament was all about slow/spin bowlers doing the trick. With Manish Pandey and Ajinkya not into bowling, Negi is the best bet for Dhoni. But will Dhoni actually pick Negi for today’s match is the question. And all we can do is wait and watch for the match.

Hoping to see a replay of Lagaan, go India go !
