Maruti S-Presso Review – First looks, First thoughts

We all know very well that the automobile industry in India is bleeding. Courtesy the rising prices or millennial preferring to ride in cabs. Most of the well know companies have either reduced the production or have in fact shut down the manufacturing for days. This was a significant step because the inventory was lying unsold. On the contrary, services like OLX Cash My Car and Cars24 are going all out talking about how easy it is to sell cars ! Here’s what I tweeted a while back on the subject. Coming back to the post, I was attending the Hyderabad Comic Con 2019 last weekend and came across the Maruti S-Presso. Since Maruti is the official sponsor of Comic Con, this cute car was at the entrance. Being the amateur automobile reviewer I am, here’s my Maruti S-Presso Review – First thoughts.

Maruti S-Presso – where does it fit ?

I learnt about the Maruti S-Presso first time when I saw the advertisement on one of the bill boards. Since the introduction of Nexa, Maruti has been jazzing up their existing cars to the next level and bringing them under the Nexa portfolio. For instance, the Wagon R becomes Ignis while Ertiga becomes the newly launched XL6. However, the first looks at the Maruti S-Presso didn’t quite show where exactly is this going to fit in ? It looked like a cross over of Wagon R and Renault Kwid. However based on their current portfolio, I guess this should sit somewhere above Celerio.

Maruti S-Presso Review – First Thoughts

One of the first things that you will notice on the Maruti S-Presso is the SUV inspired bold front grill. This mini SUV comes with features like body colored ORVMs, twin chamber headlamps, a decent boot along with rear parking sensors. Under the hood, Maruti S-Presso is powered by a 1.0L K10B Engine that powers Alto K10, Wagon-R as well as the Celerio. The 998cc engine is available with a 5 speed manual or the Auto Gear Shift gearbox. Good to know that the car comes with ABS and EBD in place.

On the interiors, the Maruti S-Presso sports a bold Dynamic Center Console with Smartplay Studio. (available only on top trim) Smartplay is Maruti’s infotainment system, the same that you find on other cars like the Vitara Brezza too. The car also comes with steering mounted audio & voice controls (only top trim). As for safety the car comes with dual air bags. Driver airbag available on all variants while passenger only on the top trim. As for color choices, the Maruti S-Presso is available in Orange, Blue, White, Red, Metallic Grey and Silver. (Not mentioning the actual color names)

Maruti S-Presso Price in Hyderabad

I did spend some time with car, inside and outside at the Comic Con Hyderabad. However didn’t actually drive so I can’t say much about the drive comfort and experience. Considering the various features that Maruti S-Presso has to offers, it does seem like a good deal for the base variant. As for the prices, I checked out the Maruti S-Presso VXI price in Hyderabad which is ₹5.1L on road. This I felt is definitely on the higher side. If I was to buy, I’d rather put in another lakh and opt for a better looking Swift than this.

That was my review of the Maruti S-Presso – First Looks, First Thoughts. Anyways, what are your thoughts on this one ? What’s most appealing about the Maruti S-Presso ? Do you think this strategy would work for Maruti during the current scenario ? Comment down your views or tweet to me at @Atulmaharaj

  1. Again a detailed post with every minute aspect covered. Though I am not much into specifications, I can only say that I loved the car for its cute appearance and the vibrant colour.
