India is world’s largest democracy. To maintain such huge population is a daunting task. It is made sure that the government is made of able ministers who can run the country smoothly. The cabinet of ministers is headed by the Prime Minister. The ministries are distributed according to the prime minister’s decision. There is no hard and fast rule in the distribution of the portfolios.
Do the minister get portfolio according to his/her education qualification or domain ?ย The answer is No/Maybe. The portfolios aren’t given based on the domain of the minister. In a coalition government, usually the ministers of the party that is having the second highest votes is given a useful portfolio. (Useful portfolios include Human Resource, Railways, External Affairs, Finance Ministry).
For example I would like to take the case of Mr.Veerapa Moily. He has been shifted from the Law Ministry to Corporate Affairs ministry and now in Power ministry.
What I want to convey from this post is that, it would be much better if the ministers are awarded the portfolio based on their domain. This will help the minister to better understand his portfolio and mange it effectively. Else if he/she doesn’t get a better view, the respective ministry might not be able to function well and meet people’s demands.
