Kohli’s One8 Commune Hyderabad Scores Big – Review

If you’re a Hyderabadi, you’ll surely agree that new restaurants are opening every week. From cafes and south Indian restaurants to fancy dining places for bespoke experiences. One of the places that opened recently and has been the talk of the town is Virat Kohli’s One8 Commune. From what I hear, the launch party had influencers and page 3 folks from across Hyderabad and the place was packed. I wasn’t one of them, but I’m glad I wasn’t.

Recently I was there for dinner with my friends and I think it makes more sense to post my review now. In this blog post, I’ll share my honest review of One8 Commune Hyderabad.

One8 Commune Hyderabad – The Ambiance

One8 Commune sits in The Loft in the heart of HiTech, one of Hyderabad’s trendiest areas packed with new eateries and is quite easy to locate. Some of the places that I’ve visited in the area are Zila, Tevar, and Subko to name a few.

The decor caught my eye right away. It’s a clever mix of chic and modern, with bamboo-inspired elements everywhere. It reminded me of Bengaluru’s sleek T2 airport terminal and Makau. There are intimate spots for couples, larger tables for family gatherings, and spacious areas for big groups. I particularly liked the plush sofa seating tucked into corners – ideal for a more relaxed meal with friends. For those who enjoy fresh air or smoke, there’s a balcony seating area.

The walls are a treat for the eyes. They’re adorned with thoughtful quotes and eye-catching art pieces. Cricket fans will appreciate the nod to Virat Kohli – one of his t-shirts is displayed alongside his autograph, adding a personal touch from the celebrity owner.

However, the restaurant isn’t without its drawbacks. The space feels a bit cramped, especially compared to some of Hyderabad’s more sprawling eateries. This tight squeeze becomes apparent during busy hours. Further, getting a table can be a challenge. Walk-ins are often turned away, and even securing a reservation requires some planning.

The Food At One8Commune

One8 Commune’s menu is a culinary journey across continents. It offers an impressive variety, seamlessly blending Indian, Asian, and Italian cuisines. This diverse selection ensures there’s something to satisfy every palate, whether you’re in the mood for familiar comfort food or eager to try something new. Since there were three of us, all vegetarians, we didn’t order a lot of stuff though.

Our meal kicked off with an exciting trio of appetizers. The Tandoori Broccoli was a standout, perfectly cooked and generously cheesy, offering a delightful twist on this healthy vegetable. The Beetroot Galauti was a pleasant surprise, nearly achieving that coveted melt-in-your-mouth texture that’s the hallmark of a great galauti. Rounding out our starters was the Soy Boti Kebab, which impressed me with its rich, flavorful masala, it had a bite. Each starter showcased the kitchen’s ability to balance traditional flavours with modern presentations.

Moving on to the main course, the star of the show was undoubtedly the Soya Kheema Ghotala – hands down the best I’ve ever tasted. It’s perfect spicing and spot-on texture had me savouring every bite, and I’m practically drooling just recalling it. This dish alone is worth a visit. If I ever go back, this will for sure be my on my order. The Dal Makhni was equally impressive, ranking among the finest I’ve had recently. These mains were accompanied by soft Naan and aromatic Jeera Rice, creating a well-rounded and satisfying meal.

For desserts and drinks, we tried the Cucumber Cooler, Watermelon Mojito, and Ginger Ale. While enjoyable, I noticed the mocktail options were somewhat limited, especially given the well-stocked bar. The dessert menu, however, presented several tempting choices. We opted for the Ferrero Rocher log, which, although different from my expectations, was a delightful surprise. The combination of praline and mousse created a rich, indulgent ending to our meal.

Kohli score big with One8 Commune Hyderabad

One8 Commune in Hyderabad offers a delightful dining experience that’s worth checking out. The service was attentive and friendly, adding to the overall positive atmosphere. The food was the real highlight, with standout dishes like the Soya Kheema Ghotala and Dal Makhni leaving a lasting impression. While the ambience is stylish and inviting, the space can feel a bit cramped during busy hours, which is something to keep in mind.

Surprisingly, despite the celebrity association and upscale vibe, the prices were reasonable. Our meal for three came in under Rs 6000, offering good value for the quality and variety we enjoyed. However, it’s popularity means that securing a table can be challenging. My top tip? Make sure to book a reservation in advance to avoid disappointment.

Overall, with its diverse menu, tasty food, and trendy atmosphere, One8 Commune is a solid addition to Hyderabad’s dining scene, perfect for a special night out or a casual meal with friends.
