Ever since OnePlus stepped in to the Smartphone arena, it has had the “Flagship Killer” tag all along the way until the OnePlus 7 Pro. Slowly and steadily OnePlus is entering the premium segment to call itself the Flagship rather than a Flagship Killer. And with yesterday’s OnePlus launch, I can very well say it’s no more a flagship killer. I’ve been actively looking to upgrade my OnePlus 3T to a better smartphone for quite some time now. Had been waiting for the OnePlus 8 Pro, but is it a worthy upgrade ? OnePlus 8 Pro price in India. We also do the OnePlus 8 Pro vs Samsung Galaxy S20 Ultra and OnePlus 8 Pro vs Samsung Galaxy S20 Plus. Read on to find out.
OnePlus 8 Pro specifications
OnePlus is known to throw in the best available specs in the market into their smartphones. And luckily they have been following this ever since the OnePlus One. The specs cannot get any better at least on paper. There have been words around that those beast specifications don’t translate to raw performance. Is that the case with OP8P as well ? Let’s look into the OnePlus 8 Pro Specifications:
- Display 6.78-inch (1440×3168) 19.8:9 120 Hz
- Processor Qualcomm Snapdragon 865.
- Front Camera 16MP
- Rear Camera 48MP (Main) + 8MP (Telephoto) + 48MP (Ultrawide) + 5MP (Filter :/)
- RAM 8GB/12GB LPDDR5
- Storage 128GB/256 GB
- Battery Capacity 4510mAh
These specifications are the best on paper. Apart from all these, it does come with a 30W Warp charger, support for Wireless charging (finally), Reverse Wireless Charging and an IP68 Rating (finally)
OnePlus 8 Pro vs Samsung Galaxy S20 Ultra
Not being a Flagship killer anymore, the head-on competitor for OnePlus 8 Pro is the Samsung Galaxy S20 Ultra. (US/China version since the rest of the world get the atrocious Exynos 990 processor) The Samsung Galaxy S20 Ultra is a much bigger and heavier phone compared to the OnePlus 8 counterpart. The display is almost similar considering Samsung makes the displays for both the smartphones.
In the camera department, based on the review videos I’ve seen, Samsung Galaxy S20 Ultra does a better job than the OP8P in the Zoom and Low light department. For normal conditions, OP8P is a better choice for a due to the 48 MP camera. Even in the front camera department the Samsung Galaxy Ultra comes with a 40MP camera.
Samsung Galaxy S20 Ultra comes with a larger 5000 mAh battery compared to 4150 mAh on OP8P. One thing we cannot leave out in the OnePlus 8 Pro vs Samsung Galaxy S20 Ultra is the price. The Samsung Galaxy S20 Ultra costs about 1Lakh while the OnePlus 8 Pro price in India would be around Rs 75,000. (The prices aren’t official and this purely based on the US prices of $899 plus taxes converted to INR) Considering that, the OP8P is definitely gives a good value for money in this OnePlus 8 Pro vs Samsung Galaxy S20 Ultra shootout. OnePlus 8 Pro vs Samsung Galaxy S20 Plus
Now, in the earlier section I spoke more about the OnePlus 8 Pro vs Samsung Galaxy S20 Ultra which is a genuine comparison since both are flagship phones. Since I’m planning to upgrade my phone, I thought to do this comaprison as well OnePlus 8 Pro vs Samsung Galaxy S20 Plus. This isn’t exactly an Apples vs Orange comparison. Also basis by last post where I talk about avoiding Samsung Galaxy S20 Plus in India, I won’t mind getting an unlocked phone from the US with the Snapdragon SOC. So if we have to compare OnePlus 8 Pro vs Samsung Galaxy S20 Plus snapdragon models, things do get interesting.
Both phones have the almost same display with 120 Hz refresh rate and 240Hz touch sampling rate. Samsung Galaxy S20 plus has a minor improvement in terms of the screen resolution. Also the 20:9 screen on S20 Plus makes it much easier to hold. S20 Plus comes in with support for expandable storage upto 1TB. (A big plus for many) In terms of camera, the S20 Plus has a 12MP main shooter while the OP8P has a 48MP. Also the 4th sensor is more of a camera filter as commented by MKBHD, the TOF sensor on S20 Plus makes much more sense.
In terms of pricing the Samsung Galaxy S20 Plus price in India is Rs 74,000 for 8GB variant. Based on my guesstimate, the OP8P will be of similar price. What do you think I should do ? Read the detailed comparison on OnePlus 8 Pro vs Samsung Galaxy S20 Plus here.
What’s your pick – OnePlus 8 Pro, S20 Plus or OnePlus 8T ?
I’m putting the ball in your court now. I’ve been waiting to upgrade my phone since last year when the OnePlus 7 Pro was launched. I took a demo of it and didn’t like the large form factor and the camera. I took the demo of the S20 Plus here and the Exynos 990 heats up like crazy with normal use and that’s the BIGGEST factor due to which I don’t want that either. Unlocked version of S20 Plus would cost around Rs 80,000 while the OnePlus 8 Pro price in India would be around 75,000. What would be your pick – OP8P or unlocked S20 Plus or perhaps waiting for the OnePlus 8T ? Mention your views in the comments below or tweet to me at @Atulmaharaj or DM me on Instagram.
