BCCI selectors have taken the final call for the Indian squad for the upcoming first two tests against Australia. There haven’t been any BIG surprises and things are just like I thought of.
To start with, Gautam Gambhir has been dropped for the first two tests. He had been out of form and wasn’t seen playing the Irani Trophy.
Virender Sehwag has retained his place at the top spot. It will be litmus test for the Nawab of Najafgarh.
Shikhar Dhawan and Murali Vijay have been included in the squad. Both of them have been playing some good cricket in the recent past. Vijay having played a good knock in the ongoing Irani Trophy.
Virat Kohli, Sachi Tendulkar, Ajinkya Rahane, Cheteshwar Pujara, Ravindra Jadeja and M.S. Dhoni have been retained in the team. With this the middle order looks rigid.
On the bowling front, Harbhajan Singh finally gets the test berth. He’ll be seen in action after almost 3 years away from international cricket. Along with him will be Ravichandran Ashwin, Pragyan Ojha, Ishant Sharma and Ashok Dinda.
Bhuvneshwar Kumar bowled exceptionally well in the ODI series against England and Pakistan and has been rewarded handsomely. He too has been given the test berth.
Squad: Dhoni(Wk & C), Sehwag, Dhawan, Vijay, Kohli, Tendulkar, Pujara, Rahane,Jadeja, Bhajji, Kumar, Ojha, Ashwin and Dinda.
Well, this is a good team picked up by the selectors. Will be a crucial game for Viru and Bhajji to cement their place in the side, An equally important game for Ashwin and Kohli to get back in form. As I always do, I didn’t want to see Dinda in the squad. Would be pleased if he isn’t a part of the playing XI.
Let’s see if this team can SAVE the test series against Australia. Action starts 22nd February.
