The City of Nizams famous for its iconic Charminar and the scrumptious Biryani is well on its way to displace Bengaluru to become the Silicon Valley of India. Hyderabad, which is the capital of the newly incorporated state of Telangana is luring the tech giants to come to the city to invest and setup their facilities. The Telangana government seems to be very proactive in bringing these companies and the IT Minister, KT Rama Rao has played a bigger role and has had an impact in getting these companies to invest in the state. Tech giants like Microsoft, Google, Amazon have been allocated the land and the facilities are supposed to come up in few years. This along with the “Make In India” initiative has had such an impact that one of the World’s most valuable company Apple Inc. too has decided to set up its Technology Center in Hyderabad. But with many other tech cities like Bengaluru, Chennai, Mumbai and Gurgaon, why is Hyderabad luring these tech giants to compile their code’ in the city ?

Here are few things that have made an impact and ensured that these Tech companies opted for Hyderabad to set up their facility

After the bifurcation, Telangana got Hyderabad as the capital. One of the best things a government of a new state can have is that everything is in place. With state of the art Airport, Hotels and Offices already in place, the government has had to work less to set up such facilities. Had it not been developed, the government would have spent crores of rupees. So the existence of basic amenities and resources in place had a positive impact in bringing these companies.

Since the government is new, they are luring these tech giants by providing subsidies. From subsidy on land to subsidy on various taxes, the government is providing various options that are viable for these companies. The impact of which is these tech companies setting up their facilities here. Otherwise, setting up a facility in a posh city like Bengaluru and Chennai wouldn’t be easy for such companies.

Cities like Bengaluru, Chennai and Mumbai have maxed out in terms of available land. The cities have expanded a lot and thus the available land is less. Moreover if these companies set up centers at the outskirts, commutation for workers wouldn’t be easy. And the prices of properties within the city are skyrocketing. While Hyderabad has a lot of vacant plots, especially towards the airport – Financial district, ORR road. These vacant land along with the subsidies by the government makes Hyderabad a perfect destination. Recently we saw the ‘Tsar’ of technology – Tim Cook, CEO of Apple Inc. inaugurating Apple’s first Development Center outside the US here in Hyderabad.

Safety is always a concern, especially when it comes to women safety. And with these tech companies looking to increase the women workforce, safety is a bigger concern. Hyderabad has a great policing system in place. In fact the city has a separate commissionerate for Cyberabadthe area where all the tech companies are present. There has been a great impact of this on safety. The city has special SHE teams along with SHE Shuttlesexclusive free shuttle service for women – which makes the city a lot safer for the fairer sex.

So with the proactive government providing subsidies along with vacant lands and greater safety, Hyderabad has become a hot destination for investment. The impact this will have on the development of Hyderabad along with the state will be immense. At the current pace with which the city is growing, the day isn’t far when Hyderabad will become the Silicon Valley of India.
