Rich sportsmen but Poor sportswomen

This thought had always been in mind every time I read any sports article or news. It has been observed that the Indian men’s team of any sport is paid much more that what is given to their counterpart. Be it Cricket, Hockey, or any other sport, the system is biased to women athletes. Well, If we are talking about gender equality and gender sensitization, then why such condition still prevails in our country even during this modern era ??

The history books and the stats favor the Indian men in that matter. Going through the TOI, I came across these stats: India’s national men’s Cricket team is paid 7 lakh per test match while their counter part  receives a mere 1 lakh per international series. Ridiculous Isn’t it ?? Even the U-16 boys winners of Vijay Merchant trophy get 4 lakh while the senior women team gets only 3 lakh !!

These stats are alarming. If we want the nation to progress and excel, men and women must be treated equally. Be it politically, socially or economically, women must be treated with respect and dignity. What are things/job that a man can do but a woman can’t ? Women hold  top positions in some of the big corporate houses not only in India but in the entire world. Big brands like Pepsi, ICICI are headed by women.

Hence would like the sports ministry to get into action and improve the condition of the Indian sportswomen. Here’s wishing the Indian women team All the Best for their upcoming matches !
