Harsha Bhogle the name that has become synonymous with Cricket for quite sometime now. He’s a perfect example of do what you like. The IIM Ahmedabad alumni has lent his voice to this beautiful game of Cricket. And that’s what even Google’s CEO Sundar Pichai had to say in the interview at LSR College on his premier visit to India. Ever-since I started watching cricket, Harsha Bhogle was the commentator. His knowledge of the game along with his great command over the English Language has made him a great commentator. He has been one of the most lively and peppy commentator with a great sense of humor. Whenever he is part of the commentary team, there is that extra charm added to the match.
Harsh Bhogle has been seen not only off the field, but he’s there at the Toss or at the post match presentation. Over the years he has gathered an immense understanding of the game so much that he has the ability to rule a batsman out much before the on-field umpire does ! During his years as the commentator, he has produced some of the finest lines ever spoken in Cricket. Here is a collection of some of the peppy lines that are my favorite.
“Missed by inches and stumped by yards” – during the ongoing India vs Sri Lanka match in Vizag when Ashwin got Dickwella stumped in the first over of the game.
“Pujara is a classical musician in the era of Yo Yo Honey Singh” – when he spoke about Pujara during an IPL match where Pujara was a part of the Royal Challengers Bangalore franchise.
“Ask him to walk on water & he’ll ask How many kilometers ?” – on Dravid’s solid batting in Test Cricket. Whatever be the scenario, le Fantastico Dravid is always up for it. And that’s the reason he’s called The Wall, truly justifies it.
“I think he is waiting for tomorrow’s newspaper to declare him out” – on the Australian skipper Michale Clarke when he was caught at the slips and couldn’t believe he was declared out.
And one of the best of the lot, when Mahendra Singh Dhoni was batting along side Sachin Tendulkar, “We have a surgeon at one end and a butcher at other” as Dhoni was busy whacking the ball all over the park while Sachin caressed one to the covers.
Harsha Bhogle and his peppy commentary has added magic to the cricket watching experience for the viewer at home. His commentary is so intense that you’ll be glued to the match, to listen and see what peppy trick Harsha has under his sleeve. He’s so amazing that he can bring that trilling atmosphere of the stadium right in the comfort of your couch.
