Big Chill Cafe Khan Market: An Italian Affaire

After driving through some of the most popular and green areas of Delhi, we reached Khan Market. Earlier in the day I had visited Sitaram Diwanchand for breakfast. Took the Delhi metro to Pragati Maidan (which apparently has been renamed to Supreme Court) and walked along the way to Lota Cafe.

This was another widely suggest cafe. However, since this one was only for breakfast, we moved to other places. In my last post, I talked about eating at The Blue Door Cafe, and in this post, I’ll share my experience of dining at Big Chill Cafe in Khan Market.

We did take a couple of rounds of walking before heading to Big Chill Cafe. Further, the weather in Delhi was pretty good that day. And with the greenery around, it made us want to take a stroll. So after our stroll, we headed to Big Chill for a second inning of brunch/lunch.

Exploring the scrumptious menu at Big Chill Cafe

The Big Chill Cafe in Khan Market is one of the most popular cafes in Delhi. Known for its vibrant and quirky interiors, extensive menu, and mouth-watering desserts, it has become a go-to spot for many foodies and cafe enthusiasts in the city. Just like other foodies, we too decided to spend an afternoon with delicious food and desserts.

Lively Atmosphere at Big Chill Cafe

Like most cafes in Khan Market, Big Chill Cafe is accessed through a small door with a narrow flight of stairs leading up to the cafe. Once you reach the top, the lively atmosphere and friendly staff immediately make you feel welcome. The cafe has multiple floors, each offering a different seating option.

The ambience at Big Chill Cafe is undeniably one of its biggest selling points. As soon as you enter the cafe, you are greeted with a burst of colours and energy. The walls are adorned with album covers of some of the greatest musicians in history, adding to the vibrant atmosphere of the place. The colourful decor and the menu at Big Chill Cafe complement each other perfectly. The menu is filled with colourful and delicious dishes, from pizzas and pasta to salads and sandwiches.

The music playing in the background just adds to the overall vibe, making it a great place to catch up with friends. However, this isn’t a place where you can work from.

Delicious Food & Desserts

Since this was our second round of food, we wanted it to be light but still have our tummies full. So we had only a couple of dishes that we ordered (excluding desserts) The dishes that we ordered included Porcini Mushroom Risotto and a Four Seasons Pizza.

When I ordered the Porcini Mushroom Risotto at the Big Chill Cafe, my friends couldn’t help but tease me by saying that it looked like Khichdi! However, as soon as I took my first bite, I knew that it was the perfect Risotto. The taste was spot on, creamy, and cheesy, just the way I like it. And, to my surprise, my friends loved it too. The dish had a perfect blend of flavours, and the mushrooms added a subtle earthy flavour that made it all the more delightful.

If you’re a pizza lover like me, then the Four Seasons Pizza at the Big Chill Cafe is a must-try. The pizza was baked to perfection, with a fluffy and crispy crust that melted in my mouth. The toppings were subtle yet flavorful, and each slice was a delight to savour. The pizza had a perfect balance of sauce, cheese, and toppings, making it a treat for the taste buds. Overall, it was a great culinary experience, and I recommend trying out these dishes at the Big Chill Cafe.

Drinks and Desserts

If you follow me on Instagram, you already know how much I love Ginger Ale. While they didn’t have a branded one, they had their in-house version called Ginger Sparkle, so I ordered that. Ginger Sparkle was amazing, better than the regular Ginger Ale. If you don’t like the strong flavour of Ginger, you might not like this. But if you like, you’ll love this. I recommend trying it here.

And as I said earlier, we had a few desserts too. Our dessert order included Squidgy Chocolate Mousse Cake and Banoffee Pie.

The Squidgy Chocolate Mousse Cake at Big Chill Cafe was an absolute delight for chocolate lovers. It was rich, creamy, and oozing with chocolate flavour. The cake was not overly sweet, making it a perfect dessert option for those who prefer a balanced taste. The texture of the cake was spot on, and it had just the right amount of moisture to make it melt in your mouth.

The Banoffee Pie at Big Chill Cafe was a sweet and indulgent treat. The pie had a perfect balance of flavours, with the sweetness of caramel and the freshness of bananas. While it may be a little too sweet for some, it was a heavenly dessert for those with a sweet tooth. The crust of the pie was crisp and buttery, and the creamy filling was smooth and velvety. Overall, it was a delicious and satisfying end to our meal at Big Chill Cafe.

PS: I just realised that I didn’t take any pictures of the desserts!

Final Verdict: Big Chill Cafe is Worth a Try

To sum it up, the Big Chill Cafe is a great place to hang out with friends or family. The vibrant and lively ambience, colourful decor, and album art make the experience all the more enjoyable. Despite the small entrance, the multiple seating options on different floors offer a comfortable and relaxed dining experience. The extensive Italian menu is definitely a highlight of the place, with a range of delicious dishes to try from.

But what truly sets the Big Chill Cafe apart from other cafes in the area is the heavenly desserts. The Squidgy Chocolate Mousse Cake and Banoffee Pie were both scrumptious and a must-try for anyone with a sweet tooth. However, it’s important to note that the pricing is on the higher side, which is the same for all the restaurants in Khan Market. Despite this, the Big Chill Cafe is worth a visit for its delicious food and vibrant atmosphere.
