While Kokapet is evolving, another space that’s becoming home to a lot of eateries is Sattva Knowledge Park, the place is not only a home to a lot of offices but also a lot of eateries as well. From the well known brands like Simply South, Hard Rock Cafe, to Tevar, Subko, Burma Burma and the rest.
A relatively newer entry to this sapace is Terrai which promises to offer a unique journey into the rich, reimagined flavours of Telangana.
This whole neo-telangana or fusion Telangana sort of space is evolving rapidly in Hyderabad. Many places are not present that serve similar food with some innovation and unique dishes. Terrai tries to do the same and does have a few dishes that I loved and will go back for.
In this post, I’ll share my experience – from soaking in Terrai’s earthy, local ambiance to tasting thoughtfully curated dishes inspired by Telangana’s culinary heritage. I visited with a friend who had been here before, so I let her guide the ordering process, giving me a well-rounded introduction to what Terrai brings to the table.
Terrai’s Setting: Earthy Vibes and Local Inspiration
Terrai is nestled inside Sattva Knowledge Park, a location that’s quickly transforming from a quiet tech park into a vibrant destination with numerous cafes and restaurants. This area is becoming a go-to spot for office workers and food lovers alike, making Terrai’s presence here both strategic and exciting.
The moment I stepped inside, the restaurant’s warm red clay colour palette caught my eye – a subtle yet powerful homage to Telangana’s distinctive soil. This earthy tone dominates the space, creating an inviting and grounded atmosphere. The decor is thoughtfully inspired by local folklores and traditions, with traditional motifs woven into the lighting fixtures and wall art. The result is a space that feels authentic and culturally rich without being kitschy or overwhelming.
Terrai offers both indoor and outdoor seating. On the day of my visit, the Hyderabad heat made outdoor seating less appealing, so we chose to dine indoors. The interiors were cozy and comfortable, however the place did feel little dark. The indoor setting allowed me to fully appreciate the textured red clay walls and the subtle cultural elements embedded throughout the space.
For those planning a visit, Sattva Knowledge Park is easily accessible and they have valet parking as well. The only concern would be the traffic in the area during peak office hours.
My Reivew of The Food at Terrai
Terrai’s menu is a loving tribute to Telangana’s culinary traditions, presented with contemporary flair. The focus is on local ingredients and indigenous recipes, reinterpreted to appeal to modern palates. A key strength is the balanced offering of vegetarian and non-vegetarian dishes, reflecting Telangana’s rich agricultural and meat-loving heritage.
Since I was here with a friend, I outsourced the responsibility of ordering the food for the table to her. So whatever I tried were ordered by her – we obviously consulted each other before doing so!
Starters: Innovative Flavours and Local Twists
Our meal began with a delightful surprise – a complimentary amuse bouche: Pachi Pulusu Pani Puri. This was a clever twist on the classic pani puri. Instead of the usual tamarind water, the pani was a traditional Pachi Pulusu, a raw tamarind broth known for its sharp sourness and spicy kick in Telangana cuisine. The burst of tangy, spicy flavours in the tiny puri was a perfect palate opener, setting an exciting tone for the meal.
Next up was the Drumstick Pepper Rasam, a warm and comforting dish with a distinct earthy flavour from the drumstick vegetable. Unlike typical rasams that rely mostly on tamarind and pepper, this version included a whole drumstick piece, adding texture and authenticity. The pepper was perfectly balanced – enough to awaken the palate without overpowering the other flavours.
The standout starter for me was the Spiced Pulled Jackfruit Millet Dosa Bites. As a fan of jackfruit dishes, this was a revelation. The pulled jackfruit was expertly spiced with local Telangana flavours and served atop small millet dosas that were crisp yet tender. The combination of textures and spices made this dish a true flavour bomb. It’s a must-try for anyone visiting Terrai, especially if you enjoy innovative vegetarian fare. We also tried the Avvakai Paneer Tikka, a local take on the classic paneer tikka infused with the famous Telangana mango pickle (Avvakai) flavours. While the sourness was prominent, I felt it didn’t quite capture the authentic Avvakaya taste I was expecting. Personally, I prefer the Avvakai Soya Chaap at Aidu, which balances the pickle’s sourness better. Still, this dish was a bold attempt at local reinterpretation and worth trying for those curious about Telangana’s pickled flavours.
Mains: Traditional Telangana Dishes with Distinctive Twists
For mains, we explored classic Telangana dishes with unique touches. The Vankai Masala with Malabar Parota was one of the best eggplant (brinjal) dishes I’ve had recently. The gravy was enriched with crunchy onions, peanuts, and garlic pieces, adding texture and depth. Unlike some overly tangy Telangana vankai dishes, this one had a balanced spice profile – earthy, warm, and perfectly suited to pair with the flaky Malabar parota.
Since we were in the mood for a bit of a Baigan diwas (eggplant festival), we also ordered the Vankai Pulao. Many eggplant pulaos I’ve tried elsewhere tend to be too spicy, masking the brinjal’s natural flavour. Terrai’s version was subtle and comforting, with fluffy rice and tender eggplant pieces that blended harmoniously. Both mains complemented each other beautifully, making for a satisfying and authentic Telangana meal.
Desserts and Drinks: Local Sweets and Refreshing Fizz
For dessert, my friend chose the Kanda Gadda Bhakshalu, a traditional Telangana sweet similar to puranpoli. Terrai’s version came with a passionfruit and berries compote to add a fruity contrast. While I appreciate the rustic sweetness and comforting texture of Bhakshalu, this particular dessert was average overall. The compote was a nice touch but didn’t elevate the dish to memorable heights.
To finish off, I ordered the signature Nizam’s High, an in-house fizz drink described as fizzier than regular sodas. It combined grapefruit and vanilla bubbles, creating a subtle, refreshing flavour that wasn’t too sweet. This drink was perfect for cutting through the meal’s spices and richness, offering a unique and enjoyable non-alcoholic option.

The starters and mains impressed me the most, especially the Spiced Pulled Jackfruit Millet Dosa Bites and Vankai Masala with Malabar Parota. The Pachi Pulusu Pani Puri amuse bouche was a clever and delightful start, and the Drumstick Pepper Rasam provided a comforting, authentic twist on a classic dish.
While the dessert was a bit underwhelming, the refreshing Nizam’s High fizz drink was a perfect end to the meal. Overall, Terrai is a great choice if you want to explore Telangana’s food beyond the usual offerings, especially if you work or spend time around Sattva Knowledge Park.
In terms of pricing, we paid around Rs 2500 for 2 people which is a little above average, but soncisdering the place and setup, it justifies it.
