Amazing 'Crickety' Weekend it was !

This weekend had to be one of the most ‘Crikety‘ one. One side we have Greame Smith’s men taking on the Pakistanis at home and the other side it is the ‘glamorous‘ (trust me, looking at some of the English girls, it is indeed glamorous ) ICC women’s Cricket world cup. I surely couldn’t have missed any of those !

To start with, I’ll talk about the ICC Women’s Cricket World Cup. (Ladies first right ??) Well, after an emphatic win over the Windies, Indians were high on confidence, while on the other hand the Sri Lankans were extra joyous after beating the defending champions by just 1 wicket. People would have thought the Indians would surely seal the super sixes berth, but it was not supposed to be this time.

India winning the toss elected to bowl and got an early break through. But it took ages to get the second as Sarah and Edwards toyed the Indians today and took England to a winning 273. On the batting front, India lost quick wickets, but some amazing batting by Harmanpreet Kaur – who eventually went to make her maiden century  – ensured that India reached closer to the English total, but Brunt denied that and thus India went down and England won by 30+ runs.

Now to some amazing cricket. West Indies taking on Sri Lanka went to score 368 in their 50 overs. What ? Yes, you read it right, they scored 368 runs ! Taylor smashed a blistering 171 and helped West Indies win by 209 runs. So the group A is the only group where all teams have played two games and won  one and lost one. This is the group to watch out for !

Now to the real TREAT. South Africa vs Pakistan. South Africa batted first and were bowled out for 253. (That would have surprised all of us !) Who would have thought what was in store for them. FAST BOWLING AT IT’s BEST, couldn’t have got better than this, as SA bowlers dismantled Pakistan for their lowest test total 49 ! Thanks to Dale Styen for an amazing spell picking up 6 wickets !

WOW ! This was indeed a cricketing weekend. Some of the best cricket was played over this weekend, brilliant batting display by the women and great bowling display by the SA men team.

Everything was great this weekend except for one thing, all this action definitely distracted me ! So it’s time to get back to work !
