Highlights – Wonder Cement Saath7 Cricket Mahotsav 2017 Finals

Cricket is the sport that brings the entire nation together. It has the charm with which people from all walks of life irrespective of their religion, race or gender come together. Cricket is no less than a festival in India and one such festival had started a month ago in the states of Rajasthan, Gujarat and Madhya Pradesh. The Wonder Cement Saath7 Cricket Mahotsav kicked off in style in New Delhi in the presence of the legend – Kapil Dev. I was a part of the launch event and was totally in awe of the tournament. The month-long Cricket Mahotsav came to end last week and here are the highlights of Wonder Cement Saath 7 Cricket Mahotsav.

Wonder Cement Saath7 Cricket Mahotsav – The Finale

The tournament saw close to 48,000 people including participation of 1000 women from Gujarat, Rajasthan and Madhya Pradesh. The teams competed at tehsil, district and zonal levels and reached the finals of the Saath 7 Cricket Mahotsav. The final match took place in the city of lakes – Udaipur. The teams that fought their way through to the finals were Shri Shyam Cricket Club from Jaipur and PCA XI from Ahmedabad. The finale saw an exciting and nail-biting match between the best of the tournament. The Shri Shyam Cricket Club had the last laugh as they beat PCA XI by 23 runs. There was another all women team finale that happened on the sidelines. This was between the two finest sides Pacemaker from Udaipur and SS Jain Subodh PG Girls College from Jaipur. The home team won the all women match with some brilliant performance from both the teams.

The final was attended by Kapil Dev and Shri Shrichand Kriplani, urban development minister (Govt. of Rajasthan), Vivek Patni (Director of Wonder Cements Ltd.) and an excited crowd to cheer the players. The Champions – Shri Shyam Cricket Club – were awarded the glittering trophy along with a cash prize of Rs 3,50,000. The Runners-Up were given a cash prize of Rs 1,40,000 and Rs 70,000 respectively. The women champions got a prize of Rs 1,40,000 and a trophy. Apart from the trophy and cash prize, every player was provided with cricket kit.

During the course of the tournament, there were 18 centuries and 95 half centuries scored. It was not only a batsman’s game but the bowler too were brilliant as there were 8 hat tricks in this edition. Apart from the teams, there were some brilliant individual performances and each of them was recognised. Below are some of the outstanding individual players of the Wonder Cement Saath7 Cricket tournament:

  • Man of the Match, Lakhan from Shri Shyam Cricket Club, Jaipur, was given a cash prize of
    Rs.7000
  • Sanjay Bhadaniya – Best Fielder – was given a cash prize of Rs.7000
  • Sushil Meena – Best Batsman – was given a cash prize of Rs.7000
  • Kaushal Kaushik – Best Bowler – was given a cash prize of Rs.7000
  • Best Women Player of the tournament, Divya from Udaipur, was given a cash prize of Rs.35,000
  • Man of the Series, Sushil Meena was given a cash prize of Rs.35,000

Also if you remember, in my last post I mentioned that Kapil Dev decided to award a deserving player Rs 1,00,000. From the Sideline of Saath7 Cricket finale

The tournament is a huge success in terms of the participation. The effectiveness and reach of the format of Saath 7 is evident from the fact that this was their second edition that has now expanded to 3 states. On the occasion of the finale, Mr. Vivek said “I am glad that the goal of having this tourney has been largely achieved with the huge participation across the states and I hope that the sporting spirit generated through this event sustains to further benefit the states and the nation.
