Christmas Dinner in Hyderabad at Fairfield by Marriott – Review

It’s that time of the year when everyone is looking forward to the year end festivities. With Christmas around the corner, there’s the festive mood all around. Backpackers packing their bags and venturing out to explore new destinations. Working professionals cashing/en-cashing their leaves to spend time with their friends and family. While Foodies like me are exploring food (like we always do !) Few days back I was invited to preview the Christmas Dinner at Fairfield by Marriott Hyderabad. It was a Food Blogger’s table which meant there was going to be food, more food and even more food ! Here’s my experience of Christmas Dinner at Fairfield by Marriott.

Christmas Dinner at Palms Kitchen

One of the trends that has been on the rise is the increase in number of food festivals linked to festivities. Most of the good restaurants and hotels in the cities spin up a delicious spread during festivals. Marriott does it at their properties, the one that I had attended earlier was the Garhwal Food Festival at Sheraton. This time around it was the time to celebrate Christmas with Fairfield by Marriott. This is a new property which was acquired by Marriott in Financial District. The Christmas Dinner preview was hosted at Palms Kitchen which is the casual dining restaurant. The ambiance of the place is lively with cheerful faces all around. The seating and the buffet area are nicely done to ensure you focus on your food. The Christmas Dinner preview was hosted in the private dining room. Without much a do, here’s my review of the Christmas Dinner at Fairfield by Marriott.

Expansive Menu for Christmas Dinner

Festival means food. And Marriott means delicious food. I’m already in love with their restaurants in the city. The well planned menu was a 5 course meal including Soups, Salads, Starters, Main Course & Desserts. There wasn’t a huge variety for vegetarians but my meat loving friends had a fun time. So being a vegetarian, what did I eat ? Read on to find out.

Nicely Done Soups & Salads

There was a one soup and a couple of salad preparation in vegetarian. We had the Leek and Potato Soup along with Waldorf and Classic Macaroni salads. Leek and Potato Soup was delicious. The consistency was perfect and so was the texture. Spiced to perfection. Not many places serve soups that are this good. Full marks for this. The Waldorf Salad was a good preparation of apples and walnuts. It was my first time trying it and liked the preparation. Classic Macaroni looked good. It was garnished with herbs and vegetables. Could have been done better. Overall, the soup was amazing and salads were good.

Lack of Vegetarian Starters

The starters is something all of us look forward to. Being a Christmas dinner, I didn’t expect any Tandoori Paneer or Mushroom preparation. However had some high hopes on it. There was Potato Corn Fritters along with Rissotto Cheese Balls. Both of these looked exactly the same and tasted almost similar. On the day, I preferred having the potato corn fritters because of the chewyness it had. We were the only two vegetarians for the night, and both of us agreed that the variety could have been better for starters.

Main Course and Desserts to the rescue

Just as we spoke about the starters letting us down, the main course was there to turn the tables. We were served the classic dishes Vegetable Au Gratin, Ratatouille along with Granite Root Vegetable and Bell Pepper and Parsley Pilaf. I loved the Ratatouille and Vegetable au Gratin. Ratatouille was nicely done and the perfect tinge of tanginess and spice. Vegetable au Gratin was loaded with corn and spinach and cheese. The Granite Root Vegetables was Beetroot simmered in sauce and I liked the preparation. All of these went really well with the Parsely Pilaf. Full marks for the Ratatouille and Veg au Gratin. Must try I’d say.

For desserts, we were served four items Stollen Bread Slice, Snow Swiss Roll, Plum Cake and Coconut Macaroons. Being a savory fan that I am, I didn’t try much of the desserts on offer. The Coconut Macaroons were nicely done, coated with chocolate sauce. Where was the macaroon we asked as we relished the coconut in it. Plum cake was one of the good ones I’ve had during the Christmas time. And the Snow Swiss Roll didn’t only have the looks, but was good on taste too. On the whole, a good set of desserts.
